“I created this art piece to embody the Salt River Community. The illustration is based on the tribes strength, freedom, and spiritual significance. The Bald Eagle shown in the artwork is supposed to represent independence and the connection with the spiritual realm. A few reasons why I put a desert in the background of my design is because it symbolizes resilience, survival, sacredness, and the balance between life and scarcity”

“The story behind my art project is my love for my culture and art, I was inspired the places that I went with my grandparents when they would volunteer at events and I would help them, I like watching the dancers, I like drawing culture dancers.”

Alonzo Lopez
“I drew Red Mountain because when i see that mountain I know i am home. I drew the saguaro because it’s useful for our people in the desert. I added the water design because we are the river people.”

Miya Aljanabi
“This beautiful drawing features a Native woman standing proudly in front of a mountain range, with a warm sunset glowing behind her. The scene reflects strength, culture, and a deep connection to the land. It’s a heartfelt tribute to heritage and the beauty of nature.”

“I did an acrylic painting on my representation for how I see Salt River and what it means to me. I have the language, red mountain, the corn field, and the man in the maze in my painting.”
